U2

Pop

A Rich Blend of Rock and Techno

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
At the end of a decade of experimenting with dance and techno, U2 put out their most heavily techno-influenced album to date. Recieving what I understand to be mixed reviews, this album has grown to be one of my current favorite records.
From the intense dance opener, to great techno tracks like MoFo, to more serious songs like Staring at the Sun, this album proves that U2 can succeed in making wonderful music of all different kinds.
The pace of the album is perfectly balanced as well, like all U2 albums, balancing the mix of slower serious songs, and techno/rock tracks like the first three.
Like Achtung Baby and Zooropa before it, Pop brings U2 fans a great rock and roll record, regardless of whether or not it sounds like their work from the 1980's, and I admire bands who are not afrain to experiment with their sound like that, especially bands as huge as U2 were at the time they began to experiment wiht their sound. It was a risk that was well worth taking.
