U2

Pop

A Very Misunderstood Album

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
While Depeche Mode abandoned their electronic roots for rock a few years ago, U2 did the exact opposite: they strayed from their rock roots to dabble with electronica. The result is "Pop": their most electronic-sounding album to date. Yet, for all the occasional synths and drum loops, "Pop" is a rock album all the way. "Staring at the Sun" and the dynamite "If God Will Send His Angels" are classic U2, as is "Do You Feel Loved." However, I think fans were most turned off by "MoFo," which sounds more appropriate on a Prodigy album, to be very honest. This album didn't flop, but it didn't exactly sell through the roof like "Actung Baby" (the group's sole classic of the 1990's). Too bad, because "Pop" really has enough merits to stand on its own as a great album.
