POP - Hint: Keep Listening!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
Like others, when I first listened to POP I thought, what tha? But after a few more listens I got it and really dig it.

U2 further expands on their "electronic/synthesizer" phase with a less experimental album than Zooropa. With a more "techno/grunge/dance" feel to a lot of the songs, U2 also incorporated sweet guitar riffs and thunderous rhythm to just about every song on here.

The weirdest tunes on the album are on the second half of this CD including "Miami". There are dark tunes like the haunting "Wake Up Dead Man", funky tunes "Mofo" and "Discoteque", and loud rock and roll tunes "The Last Night On Earth" and "Gone"

The whole album is worth a listen (more like a few listens actually) to get the gist of what U2 was doing.

Best tracks IMO, "Staring At The Sun" and "If God Will Send His Angels", but as stated before, the whole album rocks.

Yes, U2 purists (whatever that is), probably will not like the "new" sound, but give it a few listens and it will hopefully grow on you.

Not their best effort, but an interesting listen.
