It's U2 in your face!

I remember listening to this album not too long after it came out back in that cold morning in early 1997 and loved it. I was blown away by this CD. It's a shame that it sold poorly because this is one of their most consistent CDs ever. This album goes into a techno atmosphere like Zooropa but only better and more rock sounding this time. The landmark sound is present in some songs on here but this overall is an experimental record. The poor success of this and Zooropa persuaded them to return to their roots with ATYCLB which I,m not complaining at all about.

It was foolish for critics to say that U2 veered off path and flat out screwed up. Well that's their problem because this CD is one of their highlight CDs.

Discotheque is a techno\rock\dance number that will get your feet stomping with those phat beats. This is a bangin opener to this CD. Do You Feel Loved is a great song with synthesizer guitar licks and phat beats. This song would have been a great mainstream song. Mofo is my favorite song on this CD. This song may be too techno for casual fans but this is one of the best songs they,ve ever written. The sound effects at the beginning is a little harsh for my ears. It almost sounds like something from a Front 242 album. It has those familiar U2 guitar sounds. Things slow down with the mournful If God Will Send His Angels. This is the most beautiful song U2 have done since One from Achtung Baby from 1991. It's very mellow and joyous and sad at the same time. I played this one quite a bit during the next few days after the September 11 attacks. Staring At The Sun is a cool song with more of the synthesized electronic guitar licks. Last Night On Earth is rockin!!!!!! The sort of ambient intro is awesome. The song then becomes a hard rocking song that really gets my mental juices flowing. Gone is similar to Last Night On Earth but not quite as fast. It's another good song. It ends with the guitars still going for another 6 seconds. Miami is a song that I've heard a lot of bad talk about. I on the other hand love this song. Don't be fooled by the song title. This song is NOT a beach song. It's a strange dark trancey song with an awesome drum loop like nothing I've heard before. This song would be something to play when driving on the outskirts of a large city during the wee hours of the morning. The Playboy Mansion is another song that has been bad-mouthed. This song is a very blues-sounding song. This song is a good song. If You Wear That Velvet Dress is a quiet sensual song probably the most sensual song U2 have ever done. Please is a spooky track with an ambient sound that reminds me of looking out a window on a stormy evening. Great Song. Wake Up Dead is an average closer to this CD. The beats are average and the songs sounds thrown together. The sound effects at the beginning and ending are cool though. Probably the only thin spot on this CD.

Apart from one thin moment this is a very underrated CD. I suggest that you run to the music store and buy this CD! It's one that you'll regret passing up! I'd recommend this one ...
