Usher

Confessions

Not the be all to end all , Self-professed Mr. Entertainment

Honestly, nothing on this cd will make a noteable impression on the evolution of R&B music or for music in general. Its safe, predictable, rather common and not Grade A - 4 Million + material. Initially I hated Yeah for it sounded like Master P's joint and is it just me or doesn't Burn sound like U Got It Bad? - think about the melody, the theme and his vocal delivery. Nevertheless, I fed into the fever and got with the Usher machine and skipped class to buy this joint for 9.99 --- Circuit City. Clearly, not a mistake, but not the most sound decision either.

His arrogance surrounding the meteoric success of this album stifled my like for him as an entertainer and watered down what little weight his music holds. He ragged Sisqo 3 years ago about the little man being arrogant, and now "The Champ is in the Building." Truth be known, Mr. Entertainment plays with both teams. Want proof, listen to the interlude of Confessions part I, he's tender as Sisqo. The soft choreography at the end of the Burn video screams punk and all the more convincing to what I already know. The hype about the lyrical content on Confessions being his, is called PR/Media planning and not true. Yeah!, He cheated on Chilli, but with who is the real question. Furthermore, he tried to come off hard in Yeah, which is like Xtina Aguilera being so real now, when she's just as confused as all 21-24 year olds are. Don't believe me, ask one!

Whatitdo Shawty? - Usher be easy. I'm from Houston and the term/phrase, Whatitdo, which really has no meaning, is 5-6 years old. Be real son and do something new!

Initially, my purpose in writing this review was not to take pot-shots at Usher or his fallacies because we all have them but truth be known, the cd is just iight. Yeah!, I said iight. We fed off into the hype and he sold millions of records on an album that doesn't challenge the R&B envelope as he suggested. "The Champ" currently has 3 singles released at radio, which guarantees there's not much left on the record to sell it, besides hype. Just like 8701, Confessions will be this speckled gliche in a musical timeline that sounded more like pop than R&B.

Pick up Musiq's Soulstar, The Diary of A. Keys, Van Hunt, Anthony Hamilton or Hard by Jagged Edge instead.

8701 was better

8701 was a better disk, but it's definitely a quality cd.
