This was (without meaning it to be) a monumental album to my life, and the soundtrack to a monumental year in my life.
Let's go through from track to track. 'Oh Yeah' represents the thunder and the beat, it is the song that was danced to by a girl that I will always remember. Not only was she beautiful, but she had a free, fun, and fearless spirit that I have seen in nobody else. She was the envy of the entire island, and when she danced to the backbeat of this song, she made me shake my head and say "damn, bend over to the front and touch your toes". 'Throwback' and 'Confessions' I played in my first car to my job for the summer on a building site. Driving with the windows down in the hot sun, having done a hard days graft and on my way to the beer garden to meet my friends, feeling good. 'Burn' and 'Simple Things' were the songs that I listened to when my relationship with who I considered was perfect for me ... ended. I tried to be graceful and take it like a man, but there were times when I cried and cried, and then had to get up and go to work. 'Superstar' and 'Do It To Me' and the songs that made me just sit down, look at the stars and feel that need, that need for something. When you feel isolated and there's something missing in your life, and you feel that fire burning within yourself, your ready to get your life and energy back to it's full level, and hit the town again for a party.
'Caught Up', 'Bad Girl', and 'Follow Me' are the tracks that fuelled and celebrated my confidence when I eventually managed to get up and dust myself off after my failed relationship. These songs helped me get that feeling of sheer elation and anticipation, being young and on your way out to dance in a club in the summer, not knowing if destiny would choose that night to play it's hand.
The tracks on this album struck me deep, and when I listen to it now, looking back on my year, it takes me to feelings of immense hurt, and then to feelings of utter confidence and life. Get this album. It rocks.
