This is parody, pure and simple. Todd would not have even thought of these entirely derivative songs if not for the Beatles in the first place.
This album is very cynically making fun of everything Beatles, and though it does it with Todd's considerable musical production skills, I just can't get into an album whose sole purpose is make fun of and "diss" the Beatles. This is not a lighthearted send-up by any means. Listen to the lyrics. Listen to the way Todd takes samples and snippets of Beatles tunes and uses them in a kitschy, icon-skewering manner.
This is unlike the Rutles, which was a good-natured send-up, and more goofy than anything.
So what's the point? Hey, the Beatles were an incredible band and their stuff is timeless. Let's leave it that way and not try to cynically make fun of it, OK?
Bad idea, Todd. I love your Something/Anything album but most of the subsequent is very inferior. And this particular one is the pits.
