I listened to this purely by chance, having recently tasted death metal in Morbid Angel, and ol' Mr. Azagthoth kept mentioning Vader.
This album is simply excellent; I was able to appreciate it even while still becoming accustomed to the sound of death metal, and appreciate it still with my current more experienced ear (admittedly, not excessively so, but far more than when I first heard it)
The brutality is balanced with what is *almost* a sense of "pop" song-styling. Of course that's going to come off sounding bad, but I mean nothing more than the oh-so-rare intelligible death metal vocals and catchy riffs. It's still brutal as all hell, don't get me wrong.
