Balance

I Don't Think So!!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (4/10)
Oh geez, I think "Balance" and "Van Halen III" should be a two-CD set. Both fit so nicely. Van Halen "III" is flat, boring, and more serious and somewhat political. "Balance" is about the same; nothing interesting, flat-sounding songs, and a more serious flavor. Both CD's lack Van Halen's trademark feel-good, classic party-rock. There is nothing ear-catching about "Balance," so it's hard to describe this album. About the only bright spots are "Can't Stop Loving You," which I heard a lot when I was in junior high, and my favorite, "Not Enough." Sammy and the gang were superb on that song; very heart-felt and full of feeling. You know, "Feelin'" isn't too bad either. It has a razor-sharp edge to it, and cuts through you. I just wish the rest of the album could have been as good as these three. This may have been Sammy's final album with Van Halen, but it's great how they all teamed up again to record "Humans Being" for the "Twister" soundtrack, (which also appears on the "Best Of Vol. 1" album). That song is awesome! Just blows me away.
