This is Van Halen's most mature album of their career. It is also the most serious; a sense of underlying humor purveyed their earlier work, but it is less apparent here, except in songs like Amsterdam or Big Fat Money. The guitar work is thickly layered and textured. Everyone in the band puts out a solid performance, including Sammy. I became a serious Van Halen after hearing this album; for those who are not Roth-Or-Bust die-hards, this is the best Hagar album.
