The Slippery Slope--Here's Sammy & Eddie sliding down

First, BALANCE isn't an awful album. It's not VH's best, that's obvious, but it's not a throwaway like their next album would be (sans Sammy), VAN HALEN III. "Can't Stop Lovin' You" is blantant pop, but so what? Isn't that the essence of the band--fun music? "Take me Back" is pretty good, and so is "Aftershock". But the rest of the tunes are uncharacteristically bleak or slapshod. But any album with three good songs equals a good album.
