Van Halen

Balance

An excellent CD

If you are a Roth fan (like myself) you will not like this album. If you are a Hagar fan (like myself) you will love this album. The only weak point to this ablum is the lyrics that Hagar writes in some of the songs. Can't stop Lovin' You and Amsterdam need to go - they are weak songs with seriously cheesy lyrics.

However, songs like Aftershock and Feelin' are VH songs to the core. These songs are more like jams that focus on the guitar and drums, and Sammy's voice is thrown in as more of a background instument than as a set of lyrics you should listen to. That is what VH was always about!

So if you like Sammy's cheesy lyrics, go buy that piece of tripe For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. (Right Now? Standin' on Top of the World?... C'mon, gimme a break!) If you like pure Eddie at his best, get VH1 or Fair Warning. But if you want a good VH CD, this is tied for the best of the Van Haggar era with 5150.
