I have been fortunate enough to obtain numerous live bootlegs of VH from the early years and can compare them to the post 1984 era. All I can say is that this band was probably the best in the World. Perhaps they should re-name this album 'Best in the World until 1984'? DLR was 50% of VH's persona, no doubts. I have listened and watched all their Hagar material, and as far as cliche rock goes, one era was influenced by a genious and the next era was influenced by a has-been. I have also watched the DVD 'VH the early days' and in my mind it demonstrates how the band relied on DLR for their stardom. This compilation is alright, but there are a hell of alot of raw VH missing. I thought they would have included more from 'Van Halen 2' and Women and Children First'. Seeing as Eddie is free again and DLR is doing nothing, maybe it's time for a proper reunion so that the old VH magic can be rekindled, because it ain't too late! I say this because the Hagar tracks on this comp are as limp as f***!
