As a huge Van Halen fan, I am always willing to shell out a couple of bucks when a new CD hits the shelves. I picked up the 'Twister' soundtrack for 'Humans Being' alone. You do get quite a few of Van Halen's hits with this double disc, some bonus live tracks, and 3 new tunes. But to be honest, it's not worth the money. The 3 new tunes, just don't have that Van Halen sound, none of the tunes really seem to click. And to make matters worse, these three filler songs are followed by some of the best rock songs ever written, which only shows the new materials weaknesses even more. The live track are fine, but they don't add enough to the album to make it worth the price.
I am partial to the DLR era of Van Halen, but I like the Sammy years as well, and while I felt Van Halen 3 was sub-par, I don't see why there wasn't at least one tune from the disk included. Overall this disk is okay, but let's face it, the only reason people are going to buy it is for the new & live stuff. If you don't already own the Van Halen individual albums, then you don't have a rock CD collection. And the new and live stuff just doesn't justify the price. My advice is buy the entire Van Halen catalog of CD's and wait and get Best of Both Worlds when it's under $10 used.
