Good compilation, but not great.

Van Halen were one of the most successful hard rock bands of the 1980s, and in my opinion, Eddie Van Halen is the greatest electric guitarist of all time. This Best Of CD is a good introduction to the band, however there is a lot of stuff missing.

While the CD includes such classic tracks as 'Eruption', 'Jump', 'Panama', 'Aint Talkin 'Bout Love', 'Runnin With The Devil', 'Dance The Night Away', 'Why Can't This Be Love', 'Dreams' and 'When Its Love', there are some important songs missing, many from the Sammy Hagar era. In my opinion, this CD does not give Eddie's guitar playing enough justice - he is a legend, and therefore newcomers to Van Halen need to understand that he was the greatest guitarist since Hendrix. But this CD excludes many of his best works on the guitar. Absent from this CD are tracks such as 'Ice Cream Man', 'You Really Got Me', 'Feel Your Love Tonight', 'You're No Good', 'Mean Streets', 'I'll Wait', 'Hot For Teacher', 'Best Of Both Worlds', 'Love Walks In', '5150', 'Feels So Good', 'Finish What Ya Started', 'Black And Blue', 'Top Of The World', 'Runaround', 'Not Enough' and 'Respect The Wind'.

In my opinion, the band should have stuck with their original idea of releasing a two-disc box set. Best Of Van Halen, Vol.1 is still a great CD. 'Eruption' sends shivers down my spine! Amazing guitarist, amazing band.
