A poor representation of a great live band

This is sad excuse for a live album - plain, clean and simple.

"Van Halen Live: Right Here, Right Now" is a culmination of live performances from the band's first three tours with Sammy Hagar. Unfortunately, the producers of this album thought that it would be a good idea to make it sound like this was one big concert.

If you listen closely, you'll notice that the "screaming crowd" in the background is, for the most part, manufactured. If you've ever been to a concert, you know that the crowd is always loudest before and after a song starts. Very rarely does a crowd yell and scream, at the top of their lungs, DURING the song. Especially during songs like "Dreams" and "Why Can't This Be Love" - songs where the crowd typically likes to sing along, rather than cheer.

All that aside, the album still fails to capture the energy of a Van Halen show. Missing are the spontaneous cheers of "Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!" and the overwhelming pounding in your head that you experience during Michael Anthony's chaotic bass solo.

Considering that this is Van Halen's only live album, I suppose I'll take what I can get, but I expected a little more. Especially from a double album.
