I think that any Van Halen fan willing to look at this album from an objective point of view, and take it for what it is -an Edward Van Halen solo album, can't deny that this is a damn good album. Sure, it's not the classic Dave or Sammy version of Van Halen that we all love... and I guess it's a lot easier to take it for what it is now that we have Sammy back, and can now view this as the solo album that it is, but it isn't a bad record by any means... I mean, come on... it's freaking Van Halen! Different? Yes. But bad? No. Not at all. In fact, quite good... and I think most true Van Halen fans will eventually learn to appreciate it... just like people did with "Fair Warning" over time... people disliked that one too until years later, when they were willing to give it a second listen...
Now, don't get me wrong... I couldn't be happier that we are now back to the "party/chasing skirts" version of Van Halen... but this IS a good album. A really good solo/side-project album is how I look at it. It sure doesn't deserve the disrespect that it gets from Van Halen fans.
