Simply put, the worst thing to happen to Van Halen was the success they had with Sammy after Dave left, because it caused the ego of the VH brothers to get out of hand. After Eddie dumped Sammy, he tried to do the same thing that he successfully did with Dave -- blast the guy constantly in the press until the singer's reputation was shot. He went around talking about "L.S.D." -- his "I'm brilliant" abbreviation for "Lead Singer Disease."

This album proves that the true problem was "L.G.D." Eddie's ego got the best of him. This album is complete garbage and a waste of your time and money. The songs are lame, as there isn't even one that will make you say "Even though the rest of the album sucks, at least this song rocks."

I feel bad for Gary Cherone, as he is a talented guy who deserves better. Instead, he'll be known as "the guy who killed Van Halen" when it actually was Eddie.

Don't buy VH III. Buy Sammy's post-VH solo stuff (especially "Red Voodoo" and "Ten 13") or Dave's post-VH stuff (including "DLR Band" and "Diamond Dave") instead. Or pick up an Extreme album to see what Cherone can really do when working with a guitarist who hasn't let over 20 years of praise go to his head.
