MUSICIANS EVOLVE, ROCK STARS DISSOLVE!

OK... I have been a Van Halen fan for a long time and I bought this the day it came out because I was thrilled to hear that the band aquired Gary Cherone...before all you folks just rip into him go check out all extreme's albums, especially PORNOGRAFFITI, (3 SIDES TO EVERY STORY-one of the greatest rock albums of all time)and WAITING FOR THE PUNCHLINE! He does NOT sound as good on this album at all but that is because Eddie was trying to pull some amazing stuff out of him, it just did not quite work! I totally disagree with the guy that said Gary lacks the charisma of Dave and Sammy, actually Gary has more...where it counts...ONSTAGE. If anyone seen this 3 tour, you all should know that Gary is one hell of a performer AND by the way, he is one hell of a SONGWRITER, on this album he was just trying to shape Eddie's vision into focus and being a musician and artist myself, I know how hard that can be! With that in mind, has anyone read any interviews with DAVE OR SAMMY, concerning their current SANS HALEN tour together? OK Dave, enough already...I used to think he was funny and I thought it was really "just how dave is" but I'm starting to wonder if all his banter is contrived and planned, you can't get a straight answer out of the guy and this is what I think Eddie is tired of! At least with Gary, Van Halen was trying to evolve and that is what musicians do. If they get back with Dave, it will be a nostalgia tour, exactly what evolving musicians SHOULD NOT DO! You know, the kind of concert, that attracts dirtrockers that listen to ACDC, METALLICA and PINK FLOYD...over and over and over again! This album is not great and that is because they needed an appropriate producer, Mike Post is brilliant but they should have chosen someone else, like Bruce Fairbairn to round it out a bit! However, for Van Halen taking a chance, it deserves 3 stars and it does take quite a few listens. Hey, just think what they could do if they dug this deep with Sammy! Maybe, if we are lucky we will see this happen, if not just go listen to the wonderful album that BALANCE is, or if you need DAVE, go listen to the classic FAIR WARNING!
