I whole-heartedly agree with the "Steaming Pile" review. But what I'll add is this: the lyrics are even worse than the music! And that's quite an accomplishment folks. I lost respect for Eddie when he started making fun of Firehouse (who's album "Category 5" blows away any Van Halen album from the past 17 years.) Gary Cherone thinks he's a politician. Every line in nearly every song of his I've ever heard is so preachy, it's too heavy to listen to. You need to lighten up Gary! Some fun, silly songs once in a while wouldn't kill you would it? His vocals aren't as bad as some are claiming. He's a decent singer. But his lyrics are just downright batty. And not in a good Ozzy kind of way either. That's why Extreme found very limited success except for their only song that wasn't political "More Than Words". The point here is that he brought over that preachy attitude into Van Halen and Eddie let it happen! Doesn't history teach you guys anything? Van Halen used to be great because it was party music. The Van Hagar years worked as well even though they matured and sang more about love, because it still had that edge to it. This album on the other hand is a complete mess. Apparently when Cherone realized what a train wreck his political agenda created he did what most politicians do, he ran somewhere to hide for a while. Pride comes before a fall every time. They need to get back the eye of the tiger. Unless the Van Halen brothers can admit they sound old and tired and start collaborating with songwriters who aren't burned out "has-beens" they'll continute to be the Apollo Creed of rock bands.
