Okay, so Sammy got the boot and Eddie and the boys had an album to fill. "What do we do?" Find a new lead singer, of course. That's the obvious answer and the band certainly had experience in this area, but ... Maybe I'm saying this in retrospect, after I've heard how bland and draggy VAN HALEN III is, and I'm wanting to split hairs (If so, then I'm certainly entitled--I bought the sorry CD!). But maybe this suggestion could work well for the band's next effort, if that ever happens: Invite famous singers into the studio, invite them to front one song each with the band. Imagine it: Huey Lewis or Eddie Vedder or Aretha Franklin or Rob Thomas--or hell, get Steven Tyler or Def Lepard's lead singer, whathisname. Go for broke, man! It would all be for fun anyway--fun and profit. But I suggest this only in the event that the boys can't get David Lee Roth propped up in front of a mike long enough to record six or seven decent tunes. Anything's better than the mess they have here with Gary "GET OUT!" Cheron.
