I thought this was going to be another group of old farts trying to get back into the business by cashing in on the whole nu-metal type of "music",if you wanna call it that.I was wrong.Sure,the songs aren't as melodic as slash and duff's previous work with the gunners,(with the exception of Fall To Pieces and Loving The Alien).Nonetheless,the geeeetarz sound very live and not too polished.Scott's lyrics are simply astounding and at the same time they should maintain a real personal and deep meaning to any listener.And he actually sings,no screaming here.His voice truly transcends his work with STP,primarily due to the fact that this band has a much more solid chemistry.The only downside to the album IMO,is just the whole dark feel the album has.As personal and real as Scott's lyrics are,I hope the band could contribute more songwriting,rather than making future VR albums nothing but autobiographicals of Scott.Also,it wouldn't hurt for the band to get a bit more melodic.On tracks like Fall To Pieces,Loving The Alien,and Dirty Little Thing,the band shows they are truly capable of this.Other than that,the album rocks and every song kicks major rock n roll booty.
