The Velvet Revolver album "Contraband" opens up with "Sucker Train Blues" a fast moving hard rock track. "Yeah and when I want to,Yeah I will find you" are the chorus lyrics pipeing from vocal frontman Scott Weiland. The second track "Do it for the kids" is a well blended mix of STP & GNR sounds. "Should I go an hour later, showtime for strangers" are the chorus lyrics pipeing from vocal frontman Scott Weiland. The third track "Big Machine" opens up with some of Matt Sorem's drum punches and some guitar riffs from slash, however theres nothin special on this track. Song number 4 "Illegal i Song" sounds like 90's Alteranative Rock revisited again nothing great comes out of this track, even with a decent but short Guitar solo from slash. The album then takes a trip back to metal days with song No. 5 "Spectacle". The next Track is what starts to get your attention track 6 "Fall to Pieces" a beautiful Ballade about Scott's Journey to the present day "Fall to pieces, I'm falling, fell to pieces and I'm still falling" Great work and already a "Big Hit" radio wise. Track 7 "Headspace" is more of the same sounding Hard Rock that you come to expect from these musicians. Track 8 is "SuperHuman" with machine grooves and trippy vocals does the job. The album picks back up with Track 9 "Set me Free" a solid rock Effort with vocals coming out of every direction. The 70's sounding slow song "You have no right" is one of the best lyriclly on the album. "Funny right here I find myself, inside a paper cup" a selection of vocals from the track. The following Track #11 "Slither" is the hard driving big radio hit of 2004. Track 11 "Dirty Little Thing" is great and a truely rockin track. The last Track "Loving the alien" is a slow blues track "Sometimes I think I'm scared/sometimes I know" and is more 80's sounding then 2004. The short time I've spent reading reviews of this album, i've noticed that some people love it and some think it sucks. In my opinion there not trying to be GNR or STP but you can defintly here both sounds on this album. It is not the next GNR and not the next STP, they are Velvet Revolver. Lyrically I'm not impressed, musically it's a really good rock album. In my opinion there a 4 great songs on this album "Sucker train Blues", "Fall to Pieces", "Slither" and "Dirty Little Thing".Worth the hard earned cash.
