Noise and screaming

To me, this is the first authenic Black metal recording. While "Welcome to Hell" was raw and blasphemous, it didn't quite achieve the dark atmosphere of that this album perpetuates...

The music on this album is very primitave, but also very important in the history of the Metal genre. I personally like the soloing and lyrics on this album. The features of this album are tame by todays standards, but one can still see when the beginning of extreme metal began. One last premace: Black metal bands (especially Norwegian groups) have all claimed to be influenced by Venom. I disagree with that because I believe that even though Venom perpetuated Satanism, they never supported church burnings, murder, and the use of intolerant propaganda in their music. There is nothing wrong with preaching one's beliefs, as long as that person doesn't cause harm to themselves or others. Any old, old school Black metal artists and any Black metal artists with any sense at all will tell you that. Just ask Cronos of Venom and Bathory mastermind Quorthon about that.
