First Bite of Venom Leaves Me a Little Nauseous...
Review Score:

(6/10)
I've heard Venom described as "Sabbath at their nastiest," so I decided to purchase this CD. Why "Resurrection," you ask? This was the only CD they had in the bin, so that pretty much clinched it. While "Resurrection" is a good album, I found that many of the songs leave much to be desired. When your song title becomes your entire chorus for almost half of the songs, you should know that you need to run out and buy a creative streak somewhere. The best songs that this album has to offer are the first four tracks, "Firelight," "Thirteen," and "Leviathan," the closest thing to a power ballad you'll find on this release. Of those great songs, "War Against Christ" has a very gothic feel with the howling organ, so we can forgive the repetition of the song title in the chorus. "Thirteen" has an in-your-face bible-burning message and a wonderful bridge which helps mask yet another title-chorus. "All There Is Fear" makes it sound like Anton LeVey is DESPERATE for young recruits, and "Vengeance" has a simple-yet-powerful screw-you rant. 7 songs out of 14 are repetitious. Another 3 sound so much alike it is hard to tell the difference in the first 30 seconds. Because of this, I have to drop a star because Venom didn't drop the songs.
