Once again, a great list of remakes make the album work. Among the best are "Someday We'll be Together," "World Without Love," and "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted." In addition, Roy Orbison's "Crying" becomes one of the surprise gems of the whole soundtrack.
But then come the Vonda originals. And they're better than ever. Granted, this soundtrack probably won't gain as much publicity as the first since the first one has "Searchin' My Soul," but Vonda's originals on "Heart and Soul" are just as good, if not better, than those on the first CD. "Read Your Mind" and "Confetti" are just as catchy as the show's theme song. Also, "Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow" boasts one of the most beautiful melodies on either soundtrack.
As a whole, "Heart and Soul" never fails to shine. It's upbeat in the places where the first soundtrack seemed to drag on a bit. Vonda has done it again. I can't wait for the third one!
Key tracks: Read Your Mind, 100 Tears Away, Crying, What Becomes of the Brokenhearted, World Without Love, Confetti, Baby Don't You Break My Heart Slow, This is Crazy Now, This Old Heart of Mine, etc.
