I liked this album from Whitney Houston when it came out! And still love it today! And I like how the marimba/xylophone sounding It's Not Right weaves into Heartbreak Hotel's edgy techno-beat rhythms! The Rodney Jerkins-produced songs gave people like Babyface, Soulshock/Karlin, Missy Elliott, Wyclef Jean and David Foster some stiff competition! If I Told You That sounds like Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine", but this is very much a Whitney song. four of them were solid for Whitney. For once, this was what Whitney needed to get her out of the pattern of big, bombastic ballads from soundtracks of which she's so good at. And she had to compete with what Celine Dion was doing with the same pattern. The more edgier, chance-taking R&B songs were what she needed on here to stay ahead and she succeeded! The title song is cool. I also liked the reflective ballad, "Oh Yes." I liked "I Learned From the Best" since it continues her trademark power ballad pattern. A favorite I like on here is "I Bow Out." One of her better songs and the song just matches her singing so very well. This album sold very strongly in '98-'99 and it's still one of her many crowning moments!
