My Love Is Your Love

My Favorite Whitney Album 5+

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
I grew up hearing Whitney's dancy late 80's/early 90's tunes like "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "Queen of The Night." To some, the new sound from "My Love Is Your Love" may be too much of a change, but for other's it's very much appreciated. Ditching her previous producers, Whitney took in the incredible Clive Davis as the Executive Producer and she did all the vocal arrangement. The result? A magnificant and stunning collection of upbeat and slow jams. Working with such big names as DarkChild (most noteably working as Brandy's top producer), Babyface and Diane Warren (songwriter, "Un-Break My Heart"). The great thing about this album is that unlike others which are composed of some filler tracks there is no highlight to this disc. It starts out with some of the radio singles which is a good thing, but does not dissapoint from there. The opening number "It's Not Right But It's Okay" is classic DarkChild and was a great first single. Got more airplay on the R&B charts but had good remixes and got good club play. Soul Divas Kelly Price and Faith Evans accompany her on the soulful "Heartache Hotel" which is not a remake of the Elvis classic but a R&B masterpiece. Babyface produces one of the albums highlights which is the power ballad "When You Believe" featuring Pop Diva Mariah Carey. It was originally from the cartoon film "The Prince of Egypt" but Whitney and Mariah make this song their own. Whitney's rich voice and Mariah's light/ary powerhouse voice meld together perfectly. The Clive Davis influences are prominate on "My Love Is Your Love" as "If I Told You That" another DarkChild song incorporates piano chords in the beginning and throughout. Fans of Missy "Misdamenor" Elliot will not be dissapointed as well, for she writes/produces the groovy "In My Business" and "Oh Yes." I'd have to say that one of Whitney's best ballads (although "Where Do Broken Heart's Go" definately still holds the title as her best ballad) is on this disc: "I Learned From The Best" produced by hitmaker David Foster (the mastermind behind her hit "I Will Always Love You") and written by Diane Warren. I would consider it a good update from her En Vogue hit "Too Gone Too Long." Another favorite of mine is when two of my favorite producers/songwrites come together for a beautiful song: "I Bow Out" (Babyface and DarkChild). Who would've thougt it would work? And don't forget the title track written and produced by former Fugee's member Wyclef Jean, "My Love Is Your Love" which is *definately* a Whitney classic and is one of R&B's best songs ever. Overall, if you enjoyed some of the radio singles and are a Babyface, DarkChild, Diane Warren and Clive Davis fan then get this album. This is by far my favorite Whitney album. Though her newest effort "Just Whitney" has some hot tracks and is almost as good, "My Love Is Your Love" is my favorite. A+
