Strays too far from whitney formula; radio versions great.

Being a huge fan, I bought the CD and wasn't too disappointed. Not bad, but I think it was too hip-hop/rap for my taste, which is not the style that she does best. Also, I was more than a little surprised of the songs that were released for radio. You'll Never Stand Alone and Until You Come Back definitely deserved a commercial release, and When You Believe would've been a higher charting single had the record company not waited until the last minute to release it as a commercially available single. I did NOT care for "MY Love Is Your Love" until I heard the dance/remix (J.P. remix) on the radio--I love this single version. Same way with It's Not Right...I didn't like it AT ALL until I heard the thunderpuss remix, then I fell in love with it...the album didn't contain the single versions like her other albums do. The remixes for these 2 songs really saved them...they went from forgettable to truly essential anthems! Overall not bad, but not my favorite album of hers, especially since the versions of some songs aren't the hit versions. I also bought the singles, and I was happy to get the radio versions of the dance hits. Overall, the album strays a little too far from her formula--I'd rather see more ballads (and more released to radio) or more essential dance material like the radio remixes to 'My Love' and 'It's Not Right' than the move to hip-hop rap. Who wants to hear her sing that? Not me. She is the best because of the way she sings Soul/Pop/R&B, not hip hop. I'm sure the label and Whitney included "I Learned From The Best", "Until You Come Back", and "You'll Never Stand Alone" on this cd to please her true fans, and believe me, they did. I loved all three and they were sung SO well, but my point is why not push these to radio? THEY sounded like the runaway hits from this cd more so than some of the other songs. Lastly, to radio and the record label: Whitney is one of the greatest vocalists of our time and we want to hear her on the radio and we want to see big promotional ads for her new releases. Plug them for all they're worth because she ALWAYS puts out quality work, as opposed to some of the flash-in-the-pan, navel-bearing girl vocalists that are overplayed on radio today. We want to hear MORE of the talented Whitney Houston.
