This latest album from Whitney Houston is phenominal. Just when you couldn't stand any more power ballads, she gives you a fresh kick with some incredibly creative r&b/soul music. It has spawned 4 highly-dissimilar monster-hit singles ("Heartbreak Hotel," "It's Not Right But It's Okay," "My Love Is Your Love," and "I Learned From The Best"), which give you a taste of how much variety is on the album. Other stand-outs are the funky "Get It Back," the soulful tearjerker "You'll Never Stand Alone," the jazzy/bluesy "Until You Come Back," and the spunky ballad/dance number "I Bow Out," probably the best song on the album. The only horrific moments are those taken up by the how-much-more-predictable-and-unimaginative-can-u-be duet with Mariah Carey, "When You Believe," which didn't sound good on Mariah's album either. But to make up for that, you have the hidden Lauryn Hill-produced Stevie Wonder track "I Was Made To Love Him." All in all, this LP is a true testament to her soul/r&b roots, and a welcome return to her long-lost soul days. A must-have.
