I was pretty sure I was going to be disappointed with "A Ghost Is Born". The last 2 albums they made (Summerteeth and YHF) were such undeniable inventive classics (the 2 before that weren't half bad either) that I was afraid that one day they would slip and release a lesser work. But A Ghost Is Born is pretty solid. It kind of reminds me of a mix between YHF and Being There. The only flaw with the album is the sequencing of songs. It starts a bit on the slow side and the middle section is so jam packed with great hooks and then "Less than you think" comes on and it is a good song and the collage at the end is kind of interesting,but I think I would probably listen to it more often if it were placed at the end. It's just hard to sit thru 11 minutes of squalling feedback when you know that right after it lies what is one of the best songs on the album (the late greats). On the other hand,hearing "the late greats" does inspire you to push the repeat button on the cd player and play the whole thing again. So yeah, to sum up, another great record by Wilco, it's probably more accessible than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot but due to bizzarre song placement it's another album that needs to grow on you. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. P.S. I am kinda bummed because we had tickets to see Wilco and then they cancelled the Tucson show because of Tweedy's drug problem, which we do understand, they just need to promise to come back and play again, that's all.
