While Woody Guthrie is quite a capable poet and lyricist (his genius is certainly acknowledged) it becomes evident early on that Billy Bragg and Wilco steal the show. Let's face it, the reason these songs are slowly growing into a "timeless" category is because of the depth and richness of the melodies. This album is also much more focused and powerful than it's successor. There have been rumors of a third installment and hopefully it will be as captivating and as stirring as this volume.
