good idea, just unconvincing

What could be a better combination than Woody Guthrie and Wilco? Well, the album falls flat; the performances are affected, the arrangements unconvincing... The album has been well-received critically, but I have to believe that this is out of deference to Guthrie's stature in American song rather than the strength of the album... Natalie Merchant's voice is really annoying too.
