Wilco Continues To Evolve

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
The influences of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and most recently, Chicago-based band, Milhous, have always been evident in Wilco's work-- Summerteeth happens to pronounce them louder and more boldly. I can't help but feel that those die-hard alt-country fans who charge Wilco of selling out or losing their country guts are only insulted and hurt in the same way and ex-lover feels when the other has notably changed. They are jealous and frightened that their ex-partner has moved on and left them behind. But like the spurned lover, they fail to realize that their ex-partner always had it in them to be better and independent from whatever link kept them together. I doubt Wilco will fail to visit its musical past in future recordings, but I'm glad to see them take risks, and in my opinion, this time anyway, fervently succeed.
