underrated despite the hype

this album is a "pop" masterpiece--and that's a good thing, my friends. i mean "pop" in the beatles--beach boys--big star/alex chilton--replacements sort of way. catchy as hell, with dignity to spare. sure, some of the lyrics are a little spacy (track 1), but the bulk of the rest more than make up for it. "i'm the man who loves you" is EPIC "pop." even if you don't know what to make of their "alt country" past (whatever THAT means), this is an incredible pop/rock album. i'll be sad when the day comes that i've played this album so much that i'm sick of it!
